So I started a store on Zazzle's artist-driven sub-site Arts Projekt a few weeks ago. Since then I've slowly been populating the products section with new designs that I don't I've shared much at all until now. I just posted what might be my favorite design so far. It's a little ditty about how I strongly disapprove of decapitating mountains and making a big smelly mess.

Buttload of Petroleum
As most people these days I woke up pretty pissed at the wrongdoings done in the name of unfettered capitalism by corporate psychopaths. As usual my rage has been directed into the form of graphic design (aka effing around with Adobe apps). So this image was the result of my endeavors. I have no concerted campaign behind it. I just thought the BP logo should more accurately reflect the company's actual focus for the past 10 years, rather than the happy, shiny greentastic image their rebranding would have us believe. So I'm just putting it out there. Feel free to use the re-revamped logo as you please.
On a related note i was urged to make one of those Google search stories yesterday. Couldn't quite come up with anything romantic, or cute but...

New Hadron Colliderscope Comic:
I recently illustrated a comic written by my friend, Michael Bramley, for his sci-fi web comic series, Hadron Colliderscope. It's the innocent tale of a gentle insect-eating race, the Gum Rums.
If you all are interested, I'm thinking about posting some sketches and writing about the process of drawing the comic. Maybe a little later in the week.

I'm in an NPR promo video!
I'm the guy hand that comes from the right and draws the app menu, and later changes the thought bubble into a word bubble, and later writes the @NPRandroid at the end.
You can read about the making of the video on the blog director John Pavlus of Small Mammal. There you can also see a photo of our in-between-takes whiteboard doodles, including my scribble likeness of John himself. I'm not even sure he know's it's supposed to be him.
It was load of fun to be a part of the shoot along with Heather Willems of Image Think, who has plenty more whiteboard experience than I. I also met several other awesome artist type peoples who "build" the polished app in the vid, all of whom are listed in the NPR blog.

Process for Blood Dumpster Tee
Today I was working on the first T-shirt for my artist collective, The Blood Dumpster. I took a bunch of screenshots during the process so I thought I'd share.
Here's the first sketch. I tend to go pretty literal with things, so i drew bloody things coming out of a dumpster. (I assure you the collective isn't all about drawing dumpsters and blood. Mostly. )
Pretty fun, but I wanted to push it farther and add some detail. After some feedback from the group and several attempts at refining the sketch I came up with this draft.
I scanned it and opened the file in illustrator. I rotated it a little because I sorta drew it on a slant and i wanted teh dumpster to be more upright. Here as some of my initial "inking" lines.
I'm generally using a single custom brush with he Brush tool. You can see I'm ready planning out some of the colors.
We're planning on doing it on a black or red shirt, most likely. Therefore, I wanted to create a white backing/border so all the black lines would still read on a black background.
Here I started doing some fills with a halftone pattern to get some depth out of the limited palette.
Cleaned up the shading shapes. Looks pretty awesome on white background, but we want to print on a black shirt...
...and that border looks a lot sloppier in high-contrast.
So i went in a made it a lot tighter, and dropped it from the blood splashes and smaller parts that didn't quite need the outline. Last, I added The Blood Dumpster logo and my ol' siggy on a skull. Also the nipple is squirting. That way, you know, it looks more nippley.

Illustration Friday: "Equipment"
Haven't heard from me in a while, eh kiddos? Been a little busy round these parts for the past few weeks, but I finally made some time to do some personal work. Well, sorta personal. An Illustration Friday assignment, which i guess is half-way personal. Been doing a lot of blending lately and somehow I stumbled upon the theme of amputation...so a pirate with a blender for a hand was the natural choice for the "equipment" theme.
I promise there will be more complete sentences. In the future.

Wutzup Catsup?
Quick doodle before bed. Did this in what i dub my greeting card style. Although I'm not sure I've seen any greeting cards drawn like this. I fell like most are colored like this.
I think this guy needs nostrils.
There we go.

MoCCA Fest & Ant-Eaters
Sneak peak of the first panel of the comic I'm working on for the sci-fi comic collection, Hadron Colliderscope. Don't get too eager yet. Only a few panels are fully shaded. However you still have shot at reading the full 3-page story as well as the others in the collection if you show up to MoCCA Art Festival in NYC this weekend. We're printing out some copies of the work-in-progress version to share and prepare people for the upcoming Hadron Colliderscope website.
I'm always very excited just to attend MoCCA Fest, but I'm extra psyched to have something to show this year.
Hope to see you there!

Entries for Vinylmore III
Here are my entries into Vinylmore III, the annual Munny show at Atomic Books in Baltimore. There are my first customs ever, so I'm really psyched that they were chosen for the show. And I got send out a special thanks to Laura G for doing a lot of the dirty work such as base coats and such, as well as general technical advice.
The exhibition opens on April 2nd and will be up til May 2nd. Still debating whether or not to make the trip down for the opening.
Event details here.

Doctor Klein – Rock-It Science
I just did the album art for the latest mix by Doctor Klein, so I thought I'd share the pic with everyone. Took a few tries to get the likeness right but I'm pretty happy with the results. Can never go wrong with sexy alien ladies driving pink space Caddies.
You can listen to the whole album at soundcloud.com.
Cheers.
Puppy Eye Booger & HCR

Illustration Friday: Perspective
I love how the topics at Illustration Friday have been very open to interpretation lately. i wasn't sure if I wanted to go with technical visual perspective, or try illustrating the notion of people having different points of of view. The end result is definitely more literal than I had hoped to go. However, I like that as a viewer, you might try to conceive of this situation from the farther character's point of view.
P.S. Here's a detail of the little guy.

Weirdfolio o'Ten
^ Heez duh middul wun.
Getting freaky and surreal in illustrator tonight. This drawing is very similar to something you might find in my sketchbook, where, of course, my thought stream out with less inhibition. I had a similar image drawn on my messenger bag that I totally forgot about until Laura pointed it out to me the other day. Since then I've been redrawing it sporadically when my mind goes blank but my pencil is still moving. So most likely, won't be the last middul wun.
I also rew something else interesting that I think I'll save for later, perhaps as a T-shirt design.

Dumpster of Love
Pictures are up for the Blood Dumpster party from last week. Might be able to spot me or my picture in there. I must have been laying low whenever pictures were being taken.
It was a blast, though. I can't want for our next event!
