This weekend was inky!

Whipped out the ol' pen nib and ink this weekend. Never could have done it if not for combining supplies with Laura. It was a team effort between her lone pen-nib and my only nib-holder, her one bottle of sumi ink and my last bristol board pad.

Anyway here's a sketch I did while dipping my toes into the inkwell. It's the character I'm slowly starting to call Noodle Bear. Feels as soon as I start to do some hatching with a nib I start to feel like I'm channeling Herriman. I could only wish.

Incedentally, there is a great article in The Believer (Nov/Dec 2009 issue) on Morrie Turner that covers some of the satire racial relations infused into Krazy Kat.

Octo-doodle

Screwing around with illustrator today...

Dang! So close.

So it seems I overestimated the likelihood that the Threadless' voting community would embrace my design. Voting apparently got cut off after only one day, and my clever attempt at viral marketing came crashing down in flames. Better luck luck next time. Or I should say, "better design next time."

However, there is a silver lining to this experiment. First, I was only cut-off by a 0.01 points (if what I hear about the "1.5 rule" is true). Secondly, and great for everyone who actually wanted the shirt, I'm going to make the design available on my MySoti store. MySoti I've found to have some of the better DTG taht you can have custom-made. And since their shirts are made to order, they are still available for order if they don't make it through the vigorous voting process.

Keep on truckin!

Open for Scoring: "Love Bites" on Threadless

Hey guys and gals! My first ever Threadless t-shirt design, "Love Bites," is up for scoring. I would really appreciate if everyone could follow the link and give it high score.

But if love for the design (or me 0:D) isn't enough to get you to score it then I got a couple giveaways to wet your whistle. Everyone who sends me proof that they scored the design a 5 will get a free original drawn-by-hand-on-a-physical-piece -of-paper sketch signed by me. Not only that, if it wins and gets printed the first 5 people to score it a 5 with get a drawing AND a free print of the t-shirt.

Moreover, anyone who sends proof of reposting this link  or a link to this blog post on 3 different social media sites (ie. Twitter, Digg, Facebook) will get a personal sketch emailed to them!

Details:
In order to qualify I need hard proof of your scoring in the form of: A) a screenshot of the scored threadless next to an open window of Myspace/Facebook home page like this B) a photo of you scoring the design. Or any other way you can prove YOU are scored my design a 5. The more ways you include in one image the better.

Sorry t-shirt and physical drawings only available in US and Canada. However, I am totally willing to email a sketch to qualified participants living anywhere else worldwide.

Email all entries with your name and mailing address to tshirt@natebearart.com

2010: Welcom to the future!

I'm looking forward to the next year. I just turned 27 (my favorite number). It's the first year I'll spend entirely with my fiancée.

Also got me some goals for the next year, like running more often, and following through with some personal projects. Solidifying that list of goals is also on the list.

Anyway, I wish everyone the best of luck in 2010. Here's to tons more great art for/from everyone!
